2024/2025 Board Recruitment
Want to make a difference in your community? Learn new things and meet new people?
Applegrove is a multi-service community centre that offers programs, hosts meetings and events, mobilizes and supports action on local issues, partners with others and helps build community. The board is responsible for the overall management and operation of the centre.
Our membership will elect new board members for a 2-year term at our Annual Meeting on June 5, 2024. We’re looking for people of different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives who want to share their knowledge, skills and ideas, particularly those who:
- Have skill sets that will advance our strategic directions – these include experience with finance, fundraising, governance, marketing and communications, community services, community development, policy, volunteer management and human resources
- Represent Toronto’s diversity, and are committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
- Live or work in our catchment (Jones to Woodbine, railway tracks north of Gerrard to the lake)
Current recruitment priorities include:
- Knowledge and experience with finance/accounting or fundraising
- Knowledge and/or lived experience of seniors’ issues and services
- Advancing the diversity represented on the board
We encourage all candidates who feel a connection to our mission and work to apply. We recognize that structural and systemic barriers shape peoples’ experiences and qualifications, and the Board is committed to supporting new members through orientation, training, and mentoring.
Meetings take place on the last Monday evening of the month. Members attend meetings, join at least one committee and attend events, putting in about 5-10 hours per month. Applegrove is an agency of the City of Toronto and a non-profit organization. Board members therefore sit on two boards: a Board of Directors responsible for the whole organization and a Board of Management responsible for the City agency.
